In Singapore, there has been a 323 percent increase in listenership of mental themed

podcasts and having Benjamin as a guest speaker at Randomly Relatable SG will attract

more youths to the podcast. This podcast aims to target Singaporean youths aged 18-25

and to raise awareness of the effects of excessive screen time and advise them on how to

better manage it by maintaining a good balance between screen time and real time through

the sharings of Benjamin.

Benjamin, has been an outspoken advocate for youths regarding mental health issues and

has spoken at TEDxYouth@Singapore regarding his experience overcoming depression

and anxiety disorder.

“Being an artist, I am constantly, on my mobile phone searching, creating and writing down

song ideas. I felt like I was constantly using social media till the point that I wasn’t eating or

sleeping well. I feel depressed all the time because I would be comparing myself to others

on the internet and would avoid socialising with people,” says Benjamin.

“I came to a realisation that it is taking a toll on my mental health and I needed to do

something about it. So, I reduced my screen time and I choose to spend my time by being

more active such as getting involved in martial arts. It helped me achieve a level of physical

and mental balance that was absent from my life before,” he adds.

Additionally, Benjamin shared that “While mobile phones help us to be connected with our

friends and family, you should learn to limit your screen time and encourage doing other

activities to be active. Learn to unplug and disconnect from your devices when needed and

keeping screen time in moderation is important for your wellbeing.”

The outline for the podcast topic is:
